1966 brought with it many great things. Of them, The Beach Boys’ Good Vibrations or The Rolling Stones’ Paint it Black, films including Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf or TV phenomenon Star Trek 🖖🏼 it brought us England’s first, and so far only, World Cup win and the Ford Cortina Mark II 🚙 Wide Sargasso Sea, Valley of the Dolls, In Cold Blood & Flowers for Algernon were all published…the list really does go on.

We’d like to think to some degree that all of those things might pale in comparison of course, because it’s also the year that we opened on Thursday 13th October 1966! and gosh what a sixty years it’s been!

To celebrate this milestone, as Sydenham’s longest running independent business and as one of the oldest bookshops in South London, we are throwing a party, a shindig, a hootenanny on Saturday 10th October 2026 🎉🍾
